This 2-day event is an intermediate-to-advanced level course for those who wish to expand their skills to identify and manage risks more effectively.

The course will take place on two consecutive Saturdays: October 28 and November 4, 2017 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at UConn Health, 16 Munson Road, Farmington, CT. Check-in/Networking to start at 8:00AM on both days.

Target audience: Project managers, program managers, executive sponsors, functional managers, operations managers, project leaders, project team members and other key stakeholders.

Course Description: Every business copes with uncertainty, but today’s risks have become increasingly complex. Global competition, political turbulence, rapidly evolving technology and growing regulartory concerns have heightened the importance of risk management. A strong understanding of risk management principles, methods and techniques is a vital skill for any business professional. Due to their uncertain nature, all projects are risky, so it makes sense that effective risk management can be a major contributor to success at the project and program level. The successful project, program, or portfolio manager should know how to anticipate the likelihood and potential impact of different risk scenarios, and should have the tools to plan for, and develop effective responses to both positive and negative risks.

Course instruction will be supplemented with real-world examples, team exercises and case studies to demonstrate risk evaluation techniques, contingency plan development, and risk response strategies. The principles to be taught can be applied to projects in any industry or functional area.

The course will cover:

  • The project risk management process
  • Benefits and uses of risk data
  • Planning for project risk
  • Scope, schedule and resource risks
  • Managing project constraints
  • Updating plans and assessing options
  • Searching for missing risks
  • Qualitative and quantitative Risk Analysis
  • Managing risks at the activity vs. the project level
  • Selecting and implementing project metrics
  • Monitoring risky projects and responding to project issues
  • Risk communication
  • Post project surveys
  • Program, Portfolio and Enterprise risk management

Included in the cost are instructional materials, case studies and textbook, morning coffee/water, lunch with beverages and an afternoon snack.
