Creating a Chapter Worth Choosing: Strategic Planning Recap
What would make SNEC a more valuable part of your professional life? That question guided our annual strategic planning meeting on September 26, 2026 at the University of Hartford in West Hartford.
Members and chapter leaders gathered to consider how SNEC can better serve project professionals throughout our region. With PMI’s new membership model approaching, the discussion focused on what makes people choose SNEC and what will keep them involved.
Participants broke into groups representing different member experiences, including seasoned professionals, people early in their careers, Agile practitioners, those navigating career transitions, and students. Each group considered the challenges its members face, what they hope to accomplish, and where SNEC could offer more support. Participants reviewed previously identified gaps, suggested changes and new ideas, and voted on priorities.
Six leading themes emerged:
A recurring message was that members want opportunities relevant to their circumstances. Someone changing careers may need different support from an experienced practitioner looking to share expertise or learn about an emerging field.
The board began reviewing these findings this month to identify where existing committees and portfolios can move the work forward. Mentorship and career support efforts are already underway, while other ideas will need further discussion to determine their scope, resources, and volunteer needs.
Thank you to everyone who contributed ideas, shared experiences, and helped identify priorities. Special thanks to Chris Zack and the University of Hartford for hosting us, and to the volunteers who organized the day. Your input will help guide SNEC’s work in the year ahead.
